The total solar eclipse will be visible on that day, and Asturias is one of the best places to view it.
On 12 August 2026, Asturias will be one of the prime locations from which a total solar eclipse can be observed – a phenomenon that has not occurred in Spain since 30 August 1905. This website is an informative resource offering resources, activities and recommendations for safe viewing
A total eclipse occurs when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun and completely blocks it for a short time. Within the path of totality, the sky darkens and the solar corona can be seen (only during totality).
It is a narrow band of land, generally around 100–250 km wide, where the Moon completely covers the Sun during a solar eclipse. Outside this band, only a partial eclipse is visible: the Moon will not completely cover the Sun. Within the path of totality, you will experience sudden darkness and a unique visual and atmospheric experience.
The eclipse will be visible in Asturias in the late afternoon, around sunset, so it is advisable to find a spot with an unobstructed view of the horizon.

At dusk
The phenomenon will take place with the Sun low on the horizon, making the viewing experience particularly unique.
Throughout the region of Asturias
The entire autonomous community lies within the path of totality, although the duration of the total eclipse varies slightly from one municipality to another.
Looking at the sun without protection can cause very serious damage.
“Never look directly at the Sun. Always use approved solar filters or projection methods.”
Always use approved solar viewing glasses. They should only be used if they are in good condition, with no scratches, holes, cracks, breaks or bends. It is advisable to test them first by looking at an incandescent light bulb.
Never look at the sun through an optical device without a special solar filter fitted in front of the lens.
If you're going to take photos, use UV filters for your camera.
